Wedding Video Basics

wedding video tipsIf your aim as a wedding videographer is to shoot a cinematic wedding video that is worthy enough to be watched over and over again lovingly and with remembrance by your clients, then the very first thing that you would need to do would be to make sure that you have a long and extremely detailed meeting with the bride and the groom well before the actual date of the wedding.

You will need to go over all of the details of the wedding.

Discuss what the couple wants and needs. Discuss what kind of effect they are going for. It is important that you manage all this, including their expectations well out of the way first before you even think about doing anything else. You will need to pan all the details out for all of the aspects of the wedding from the rehearsal dinner, to the part where everyone is getting ready, to the ceremony, and down until the reception.

Have a long talk with the rest of the vendors or service providesr in the wedding as well.

Learn how you will be able to network accordingly. Knowing how to properly tap into your contacts in the wedding industry is one of the main elements of success. Coordinate the task at hand with all of the people participating in the wedding. There are some churches that will not allow you to take a video near the altar so you might have a need to shoot from the back of the room and for that, you will need to equip yourself with a decent enough zoom lens.

A wedding videographer knows that the morning of the wedding is one of the most hectic and nerve wracking moments there ever will be.

You should know well ahead of time that there will be a lot of walking and running around one way or the other. You need to prepare accordingly. Pack light but pack everything that you could ever need. Go as easy on your shoulders and on your back as much as you possibly can. Pack with the barest of minimums. Ideally, you will need one or two cameras and one or two lenses, ideally a medium zoom lens and a telephoto lens. Pack enough memory cards and extra camera batteries that will last you for the entire wedding event. And more importantly, if you can help it, wear the most comfortable pair of shoes you have.

You also have to turn your attention to the fact that audio is something that is absolutely crucial.

Prepare to have external recorders and try to go for something that has multiple sources. If the bride and the groom have hired a DJ for the wedding, it would be wise to tap into the DJ’s equipment for your backup gear one way or the other. A video is only as good as its sound quality. The two should coexist with each other. Again, it is quite alright if you become creative and experiment a little with the way you shoot your wedding video York but make sure that you satisfy all of the traditional shots as much as you can.
